Privacy Policy

Model Organism is a non-commercial, informational publication. We summarize published preclinical research for general education; we sell nothing, advertise nothing, and have no products, subscriptions, or paid services of any kind. That posture shapes this policy: because we have no commercial use for your data, we collect almost none of it, and this document is short as a result. What follows describes exactly what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

Information We Collect

We collect two categories of information, both minimal.

• Email address, if you subscribe. If you sign up for our newsletter, we store the email address you provide. That is the only information the form collects. Subscribing is entirely optional, and every email we send includes a working unsubscribe link.
• Standard server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting infrastructure automatically records basic technical information about requests: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We use these logs only for security monitoring and to keep the site running, and they are purged on a rolling basis.

We do not ask for, and do not want, your name, location, health information, or anything else.

Cookies and Analytics

In plain language: this site does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party ad technology of any kind. We use a single privacy-respecting analytics tool — a self-hosted instance of Plausible Analytics — to count page views in aggregate. It does not use cookies, does not store personal data, does not follow you to other websites, and cannot identify you individually. It tells us things like "the BPC-157 explainer was read four hundred times this week," which is all we need to know. Because the site sets no non-essential cookies, you will not see a cookie consent banner here; there is nothing to consent to.

How We Use Information

Subscriber email addresses are used for exactly one purpose: sending the newsletter you asked for. Server logs are used to detect abuse, diagnose technical problems, and maintain the security of the site. Aggregate analytics are used to understand which explainers readers find useful. That is the complete list.

What We Don't Do

We consider the following commitments permanent features of the publication, not current policy subject to revision:

• We do not sell, rent, or trade any reader information to anyone, for any reason.
• We do not participate in advertising networks and host no advertising.
• We do not share data with data brokers or "audience measurement" companies.
• We do not build profiles of readers, track reading behavior across sessions, or attempt to identify who you are.

Third-Party Services

We keep third-party involvement to a minimum. The site loads images from Unsplash's content delivery network; when your browser requests those files, that service receives standard technical request data (such as your IP address) under its own privacy policy. Our newsletter is delivered through a standard email service provider that processes subscriber addresses on our behalf and is contractually barred from using them for anything else. We link to no social platforms that track visits from this site.

Data Retention

Subscriber email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, at which point they are deleted from our active list within thirty days. Server logs are retained for ninety days and then deleted. Aggregate analytics contain no personal data and are retained indefinitely as simple counts.

Your Rights

You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you (for nearly everyone, the answer is either "an email address" or "nothing"), ask us to delete it, or unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email. For any of these requests, write to hello@modelorganism.org and we will respond within thirty days. If you are in a jurisdiction that grants additional statutory privacy rights, we honor those too — our default practices already exceed most of them.

Children's Privacy

This site is written for a general adult readership and is not directed at children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has submitted an email address to our newsletter, contact us at hello@modelorganism.org and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for any material change, note it in the newsletter. We will never change the commitments listed under "What We Don't Do."
